One of the hardest things for anyone moving to a new city–let alone a new country–is to learn about the culture in an authentic, welcoming way and find everything you need without having to stray too far from home. For those living outside of the downtown core, this can be a challenge, but Thorncliffe Park has been set up to welcome new Canadians and offer the services you need.

This is not a neighbourhood without problems, but the Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office, a social and settlement organization focused on strengthening quality of life for local residents, is working hard to change that. Services include orientation, newcomer and host matching, translation and language training, employment services, youth educational and recreational programs and more.

The East York Town Centre caters to all of your shopping needs right in the middle of the neighbourhood. It also has medical and professional services.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the Don Valley trail system through Ernest Thompson Seton Park has wonderful nature and fitness trails. Family programs at R.V. Burgess Park, led by the indomitable and passionate Thorncliffe Park Women’s Committee, include kids’ shows, a shopping bazaar and the city’s first public Tandoor oven.
