Tanenbaum Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto (located just north of Wilson Heights in Bathurst Manor)Tips for parents: Summit Heights is a small, dynamic school including programs for gifted children and those requiring special learning. If your child would benefit from more one-to-one teacher and peer time, this school may be the right choice for your family.
If your child loves art, music, dance or drama, Faywood offers a nurturing environment based on the principle that art can be combined with traditional academics to increase literacy in and rate of development in children. They also have full-day and before and after school daycare.
Best For
Families looking for custom detached homes on large lots without having to head to suburbia.
Overview
Buyers interested in newer, detached houses for sale in North York on large lots under the $1.5M mark should seriously consider Wilson Heights.
Sometimes called Clanton Park and combined with Bathurst Manor, Wilson Heights is a popular family neighbourhood with good schools. It’s close to the great community centres and parks of Downsview and Bathurst Manor along with easy access to highways and main artery roads for commuters. But most importantly, the size and quality of the properties offer exceptional value for money in comparison to neighbourhoods further south.
The area was originally known as Dublin Heights and was settled by Irishman William Duncan in the early 1800’s. Today, the neighbourhood has one of the largest Jewish populations in the city and offers proximity to synagogues and specialty shops. There is also a large Italian community.
Why We Love Wilson Heights
It’s Suburbia in the City (in a good way)
Torontonians love to knock the ‘burbs but the truth is there are a lot of perks to the large, custom homes, massive lots with private drives and nearby ravine and parkland that you can find more commonly outside of the core. But understandably, most buyers don’t want to give up the convenient commute times and amenities that come with Toronto homes for sale. But there is a phenomenal middle ground just north of Toronto-proper. Cue North York homes.
Wilson Heights in particular is a great neighbourhood to consider if you love the look of new build, detached custom homes. Naturally, because of the great location, these properties come at a premium when compared to similar homes further on the outskirts of the GTA. That said, when you look at the size and quality of property available in Wilson Heights and the prime North York location, the value proposition here is tremendous.
