Description
This is perhaps the least well-known and most underrated pocket of East End Toronto. Even lifelong east-enders aren't always aware of this gem of a 'hood, lumping it in with the more talked-about neighbourhoods that surround it like Playter-Estates and East York. But make no mistake - this is one of the most charming areas east of the Don River Valley.
If you're lucky enough to score one of the lovely, Tudor properties that Todmorden Village is best known for, it may just be your forever home. Toronto homes for sale in Todmorden Village are typically either detached, two-storey brick houses or stone or brick bungalows but there are different sections to the neighbourood of Todmorden Village, each with their own characteristics and unique properties.
Homes west of Broadview are typically Tudor-style cottages, many of which have stunning ravine views. They are a short walk to the subway and Dundas and King streetcars that run from Broadview Station as well as Danforth shopping and restaurants. There are also some rental apartment buildings in this area and the odd Victorian semi-detached property and so it's a bit of a mish-mash but the highlight is definitely the old-world "cottages" tucked down side streets near parkland and the ravine.
This area is considered part of Playter-Estates by many but it is a separate neighbourhood. In fact, it's one of the nicest pockets of Toronto in our opinion and a favourite of our in-house real estate writer and history buff who's keeping a close eye on this charming pocket for her next move.
More Tudor-style homes can be found north of O’Connor between Pape and Donlands in the area known as The Golden Triangle. Homes here are often highly decorative, having character features like big front porches and leaded glass windows. This is prime real estate for history lovers who love a sense of authenticity and patina in their homes.
Between Donlands and Coxwell, north of O'Connor, is another prime pocket around Four Oaks where prices reflect the size and features of the properties. There are some gorgeous, original character homes here backing onto ravine land along with new build, executive-style homes with four or five bedrooms with deep lots and, in some cases, pools.
Finally, the area to the far north-east between Coxwell and Woodbine has both cozy post-war bungalows (most original condition) as well as decorative two-storey detached houses that are a great option for families. Some stretches here are difficult to distinguish from the larger neighbourhood of East York to its south and there are still some great deals to be found, making it a popular area for end-users and contractors looking for tear-down or "top-up" properties.

Why We Love Todmorden Village
It’s One of Toronto’s Best-Kept Secrets
Despite The Toronto Star and The Grid naming Todmorden Village as one of the most underrated neighbourhoods in Toronto, it’s not an area the average Torontonian knows much about – even those who have faithfully called east side home for decades.
Todmorden offers charming properties that rival Leaside’s and it’s proximity to the DVP makes for an easy commute. It’s also close to shopping along the Danforth and Pape, the TTC and great parks and nature trails. Todmorden buyers who score a good deal can smile smugly as they enjoy their character properties in a rare, tranquil Toronto setting while others pay tens of thousands more for properties that are often just a few blocks away.
The big difference to note though is, of course, school district, making Todmorden an excellent choice for empty nesters or childless professionals who want Playter-Estates without having to pay the Jackman school district premium.
