Best For
Families looking for detached homes for sale in North York on large lots along quiet, tree-lined streets, close to the highway for a quick commute downtown.
Overview
Armour Heights is a well-situated North York neighbourhood that offers the best of both worlds - beautiful, tranquil residential settings just minutes to Highway 401. The Don River Valley, Don Valley Golf Course and Earl Bales Park together form a natural, green boundary around the northern and eastern sections of the neighbourhood yet the highway runs straight through the heart of Armour Heights.
Armour Heights has an interesting history. From modest beginnings as farmland, this North York neighbourhood served an important purpose during the First World War when it was used as training grounds for the Royal Flying Corps before evolving into the upscale community it is today.
The farmhouse that belonged to John Armour (after whom the neighbourhood is named) is now the location of the Armour Heights Community Centre, known for excellent art, fitness, sports, and recreational programs for all ages. Armour Heights also has an active Residents’ Association whose mandate includes protecting the area from commercial and residential development that could change the character of the neighbourhood and fostering ties within the community.
Armour Heights is often grouped together with Lansing into one neighbourhood known as Lansing-Westgate. Armour Heights has a strong Jewish community and there are a ton of specialty shops and restaurants in the area.
Why We Love Armour Heights
We Love A 'Hood With A Varied History
Many of the houses in Armour Heights retain the charm of bygone eras but you're not stuck to one decade. From historic, stone Tudor homes from the 1910s and 20s to the modern architectural styles of the 1960s and 70s, this neighbourhood has a lot of diversity in its architecture for a relatively compact geographic area.
You Won't Get Bored
Between the Gwendolen Park Tennis Club, Don Valley Golf Course and Earl Bales Park that offers skiing and snowboarding in the winter, you won’t run out of outdoorsy things to do around this neighbourhood.
If you’re more into yoga, cooking, or arts and crafts, the Armour Heights Community Centre hosts a variety of activities for all ages including a stellar line-up of kids' programming.
