Description
Main & Danforth, Danforth Village or, if you like, Danforth East, provides a variety of options for homebuyers from semi-detached to detached houses as well as townhouses. The reasonable price points make this neighborhood attractive to young professionals buying their first property and families on a budget.
Danforth East was featured in the 2012 Where to Buy Now Toronto Life Real Estate Guide. Original condition homes for sale in Toronto Main & Danforth are getting snatched up by renovators and many older bungalows are being torn down for larger, modern new builds.
A word of caution to investors though: if you’re planning on a quick flip, be careful not to over-invest in the renovation. While there are some properties selling well into the seven figures, in general, the east section of Main & Danforth likely won’t attract the prices that we’re seeing to the west, particularly in areas just outside of this neighbourood where there's been a major contractor presence for years, e.g. in neighbouring Greenwood-Coxwell around Monarch Park.
Best For
Young professionals looking to get a foot on the housing ladder in an up-and-coming neighbourhood with an easy commute to downtown.
Why We Love Main & Danforth / Danforth Village
Parks & Recreation
Main & Danforth has many options within walking distance for active individuals and families including neighbouring Monarch Park with its ice rink and pool, sports fields at The East Toronto Athletic Field, The Ted Reeve indoor hockey arena and the Earl Beatty Community Centre with indoor pool and gym.
This Neighbourhood Cares
Local residents take an active role in shaping the future of their beloved neighbourhood. Spearheading the move towards thoughtful gentrification that hopes to revitalize while retaining the area’s affordability, is the Danforth East Community Association (DECA).
They’re following the lead of other successful renewal projects in neighbourhoods like Parkdale, attracting new businesses to transform the area as well as leading a number of events to enliven the community–everything from pop-up shops to a holiday festival to commissioning public artworks.
You Can Choose to GO
Many residents that live near the Main and Danforth intersection choose to hop on the GO train at Danforth station to head downtown to Union rather than commute in via car or subway. It’s just a ten to fourteen minute ride depending on the train and many locals swear by its convenience.
