New Canadians seeking affordable Toronto apartments for rent.
Overview
Flemingdon Park is a culturally-diverse neighbourhood in the south eastern tip of North York. It's so far south in North York that it really feels more like Toronto-proper. Over eighty different languages are spoken here; many new Canadians call Flemingdon Park their first Toronto home.
This North York neighbourhood, completed in the 1970’s, was Canada’s first purpose-planed apartment city based on European models. To ensure the area was socially sustainable, services were added in proportion to the residential apartment block to ensure adequate community services, health care and schools along with help for new residents looking for jobs.
Why We Love Flemingdon Park
It has Great Community Centres
There are several community centres in Flemingdon Park that offer excellent services to residents The Dennis R. Timbrell Resource Centre offers free family programming and includes a pool, gym and day care as well as a family-friendly public library.
The Flemingdon Community Centre is popular for its “Playground Paradise”, a massive indoor playground for kids including climbable play structures, spiral slides, a track ride, a huge ball pool with 8,000 balls, part room for birthdays and more. Across the street is the Angela James Arena where kids can participate in hockey and skating programs.
Because We Love Science (especially that ball that makes our hair stand on end)
The Ontario Science Centre, located in Flemingdon Park, is a true Canadian icon. Almost every child who grew up in southern Ontario remembers fondly the school trips to this science and nature wonderland. It includes an IMAX theatre and wonderful exhibitions on space, the living earth, unraveling the mysteries of the human brain and more.
And of course our favourite, the hands-on demo sphere that teaches kids about electricity and gave us really cool stand-up hair. Equally cool at forty as it was when we were four.
