Best For
Families looking for reasonably-priced, large, subdivision-style homes in a good Catholic school district.
Overview
Rathwood is a small, family-friendly, well-tended neighbourhood east of Mississauga City Centre. This community is comprised of a lot of subdivisions and so if architectural variety is important to you, Rathwood may be too generic for your taste. However, if you’re looking for a well-kept, family-sized house in a quiet neighbourhood with good schools and parks, then consider a Rathwood home.
Rathwood is particularly appealing to families looking for Catholic schools as it has more options and higher-ranking Catholic schools than just about anywhere else in Mississauga. Rathwood is also a convenient location for commuters as it’s close to highways and major throughways in and out of the city.
Rathwood is a community to consider if you’re a family on an average property hunt budget who wants more than what trendier Mississauga neighbourhoods will afford you – more interior space, more rooms, a bigger yard, wider, nicely-paved streets, more green space and more choice in which school to send your child(ren).
Why We Love Rathwood
It's Next Door to Top-Rated Schools
Rathwood is a small neighbourhood and there are technically no public schools directly within its borders. While it has four Catholic elementary schools and two Catholic secondary schools, its public elementary, middle and secondary schools are shared with nearby Applewood residents.
That said, buyers looking at Rathwood homes for sale will have the benefit of sending their kids to one of multiple, good elementary schools followed by Tomken Road Middle School which is ranked extremely high.
If you’re looking at Catholic Schools, Rathwood has more options than any Mississauga neighbourhood of this compact size. St Martha & Mary Separate School was ranked a very high 9.6/10 by the Fraser Institute in 2012 but experienced a bit of a downward trend for the few years following so you’ll want to do some more research before enrollment. Regardless, it is still widely considered one of the best if not the best Catholic elementary school in Mississauga. The Catholic high schools in Rathwood are also highly-ranked.
